Today is the National Day of Mourning in Azerbaijan and I took a bunch of pictures and posted about it last year. It's the commemoration of the day in 1990 the Russkies tried to quash the last organized, effective effort the Azeris made to get rid a corrupt dictatorship. The Azeris won that battle, sort of not really, but a lot of people were killed in the process. Ultimately, one could argue, the war was lost.
The Producer reports that white (ie Russian looking, non-Caucasian Caucasian) folks are targets of insults in the streets today. That's sort of funny, 'cause Azerbaijan was probably a better place for most people when the Russians were in charge.
